A Comprehensive Eye Exam Includes
The Acuity Test
The visual acuity test is used to determine the smallest letters you can read on a standardized chart (Snellen chart) or a card held 20 feet (6 meters) away. Special charts are used when testing at distances shorter than 20 feet (6 meters).
Retinoscopy Exam
Retinoscopy (also called skiascopy) is a technique to figure out the refractive error of the eye (farsighted, nearsighted, astigmatism) and the need for glasses without having to ask, “which is better, one or two.” The test can be quick, easy, reliably accurate and needs little cooperation from the patient.
Slit Lamp Exam
The slit-lamp examination looks at structures that are at the front of the eye. A slit-lamp, which is a specialized magnifying microscope, is used to examine the structures of the eye (including the cornea, iris, vitreous, and retina)
Glaucoma Test
Glaucoma tests can determine whether the optic nerve is damaged, which may cause vision problems. An Ophthalmologist or Optometrist may recommend a combination of quick, painless procedures. Tests include angle test, corneal thickness test, dilated eye exam, eye pressure check, optic nerve imaging and visual field testing.
Ophthalmosocopy
Ophthalmoscopy is an examination of the back part of the eye (fundus), which includes the retina, optic disc, choroid,
and blood vessels.
